Barbara Bailey is a Staff Editor for Barking Rain Press. A Navy Journalist for more than 16 years, Barbara has written hard news and human interest stories. In addition to teaching courses in style and grammar, she has trained junior editors, and edited their work. As the Public Affairs Officer for Bethesda National Naval Medical Center during the 2003 campaign in Iraq following 9/11, she coordinated the work of 1,000 Navy reservists, wrote stories for home town newspapers on the war, and coordinated with civilian news media for information and interviews with patients returning from Iraq. Barbara received three Navy/Marine Corps Outstanding Achievement Medals for Journalism, as well as two commendations for outstanding work; one from the Admiral of Bethesda National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and the other from the Commander of Strategic Air Command, Atlantic, in Norfolk, Virginia. Her stories and photographs have been published in three countries and twenty-seven states.
Barbara has a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Radio/Television production. Her Play “One Family” was produced by Spokane Civic Theater. She attends writing workshops through the Willamette Valley Writers Association and the Mendocino Coast Writer’s Conferences, and spends free time outdoors and with her family of pets.
